M engine in 450

Been looking for something to bale with, with live PTO. Found a decent 450, with broken main web, for cheap, and have a good running M engine.
I don't need more power, and am not concerned about "correct" just getting a useable tractor for cheap, but I don't want a hack job, or do anything irreversible.

Can I swap engines without having to butcher anything?

They will interchange easily. Match clutch parts/and the flywheel from the 450 to assure the PTO and TA work. Jim

Yes,you sure can.A friend has done just that.A
little underpowered for a 450,but plenty of power
for haying.Just like an M,with extra 'stuff'.

You may need to swap the front cover And backing plate to get the hydraulic pump to fit. It would be a good idea to use the heaver cam gear also.

a good m with m+w pistons or firecraters will make over fifty horsepower and the 450 will make fiftyfive. I doubt that will could tell the difference baling with it.

It will be a little under powered remember when IH
went from the regular letter tractors (M & H) to the
Super tractors (Super M & Super H) they upped the
horse power AND the gearing so they'd pull the same
implements only FASTER. Idea was you didn't need to
buy all new equipment for your new tractor and could
farm more 'cause you're farming faster!
