Scrap price for cub

There is a tractor sitting in a field down the road from me. It has been in the same spot for as long as I can remember. I asked a neighbor about it a long time ago and the guy who owns it just put his number in my mailbox. All I can see from the road is that it is a cub with dual wheels on the back. I am going to guess that it is stuck. Starting point for my valuing it would be scrap price. What would the scrap price be on a Cub. Anyone know? I just want to tinker with it if it's repairable. I already have an Oliver Super 55 and a 1948 Chevy two ton I am working on, but I just hate seeing this tractor rusting away.

Bare Cub weighs about 1600lbs with wheels and tires. Assuming $200/ton for scrap, about $150.

Usable parts and accessories, add from there. Lot of good usable, desirable parts and accessories can be stripped from an unsalvageable Cub.

Depending on how the dual wheels are attached it may have some fairly valuable spacers.

I have a Cub in similar shape. If I went to the trouble of responding to your interest in purchasing it , I would be offended if you offered me scrap price for it. Or at least if you mentioned that in your first offer. I can get scrap price from any scrapper. I would be more interested in if you showed interest in fixing it up and appreciating what you were getting beyond scrap iron value. That all said , I would think it was worth $250-500 if it has tires that hold air and there is a hope of getting it going again.
Good luck and I hope you can get it and save it!

Thanks... I do want to save it from the junker, but needed to know what the bare minimum would have been. It gives me a place for me to start my thoughts on an offer. It's a whole tractor, so I won't offend the owner. I was planning on asking him what he wanted for it first. I usually pay too much for my stuff because I get too wrapped up on bringing something home. I don't even know if the tires hold air or if the block is cracked. I'll let you guys know more when and if I find out.

I just bought one for 400 with cultivators and a dirt plow with everything to hook it up the motor on its stuck in a few days I am going to try to get it apart but its stuck pretty bad but I been paying 350 to 500 for them in jersey

When you check the tractor out, pay attention to the following areas:

How's the hood/tank? Is the grille still there? If it is, loosen the screws and pull it off to see if the casting under the radiator has been welded. When they freeze up, usually the first place that cracks is just behind the lower grille "shelf."

If it's a wire mesh grille, those aren't as valuable as the "bar" grilles [either 4-bar or multiple-bars]. Distributor or magneto? Any other signs of welding on any easily-seen castings?

Why be offended by an offer? Just say no! This guy is leaving it out in the rain to rust away so he obviously doesn"t value it. What"s wrong with offering him scrap price? It"s clearly worth nothing to him.

If it is a lowboy with duals check to see if it has Howard Despeeders mounted on the finals. if so the Despeeders with brackets and seal plate are a minimum of 400 to 500 each.
