shifting pattern for H

Every Farmall I had, had the shifting pattern molded right into the cast iron transmission cover.

Top left = reverse
Bottom left = 1
Top middle = 2
Bottom middle = 3
Top right = 4
Bottom right = 5

Barring that, you can just pick a gear and slip the clutch a little to see what direction it goes, then slip a little more to make sure it's not a crazy-fast road gear, then let it out and see how fast it goes. I.e....

If the tractor goes backward, you found reverse.

the shifting pattern has been the same on most models of these tractors from 1939-1963. ihc has used the kiss system ,... keep it simple stupid.

Wayne has it right...every H is that way. I can attest to the fact that he would know more about the Farmall H than most anyone...he taught me all I know about them. he is my dad.

Actually it went longer than 1963 with the 656, 666, and 686 tractors.
