986 shift linkage

looking at a IH 986 the shifter linkage for transmission range has alot of play in it most of the time it will not go into reverse or park. Is there a bushing on it that wears out and is it a big job to repair

remove the floor pan and check the condition of the linkage rod ends, also check transmission cover shift lever fit to shift rod the slot will wear causing a lot of play also check shifter pivot pin for excessive wear
