Ghosts or Gremlins

Cosmic ray from the milky way hit the ignition switch and pulled it out. Another hit a chamber full of fuel and air igniting the mix from the nuclear cascade. Lucky you it was in neutral.
Kidding aside does it usually require a jump start? Jim

Solenoid type starter set up??? If yes I have seen that more then once over the years and if it has a mag and you left the gas on yes it could start on it own. Have a D-17 A/C that one day I was working on my truck when I heard with sounded like an engine trying to start and figured I had to run a trespasser off but found that the D-17 was spinning over on it over. The solenoid had gone back and caused that

I always leave in neutral due the fact that this can happen. It was without a doubt an interesting way to wake up. It has never needed a jump start and has never done it before either. Just weird and worth sharing I thought.

if you are just coming up on compression on a cylinder, and you have a mag, and it isn't grounded, she can fire and start. I almost lost a hand that way with the fan. was positioning the timing on the F-20, and had the cover off the mag, as I was going to replace the points. I turned the engine over with the fan blade to position the cam in the mag............much to my surprise, she started. I came out of it with a moderate gash and VERY bruised wrist. Learned a lesson that day that has stayed with me forever...........

Not saying that is what happened to you. Also, depending upon your starter setup, if the spring in the starter switch fails, and the contact point drops and makes contact, it will run the starter. All sorts of strange things can happen.

Will be interested to hear what you figure out on this one.
