brakes/steering

I just got my 400 farmall running after sitting for two years, it steered fine and the brakes worked ok when I parked it two years ago. My problem is it won"t steer, the wheels turn right or left but the back wheels are pushing the tractor straight ahead, even when you use the brake to help turn it makes no difference. I thought maybe the brakes were too tight so I loosened them up till they barely slow the tractor down and it still pushes straight ahead.
It seems almost like both right and left axles are locked together. Does anyone have any ideas on what could be the problem? I"m stumped and really appreciate any help I can get, Thanks, Tom D.

Sounds like your differential is locked up. Put the tractor in neutral, jack up one rear wheel, and try to turn it (block the other wheel and the front wheels).

If it turns out the differential is locked up what could cause that and how can it be fixed?
And how could it lock up from just sitting, the only thing I did to the rear end was drain and replace the hytran fluid? any help is greatly appreciated. It's still dark out but as soon as the sun comes up I'll jack up a side.
