Farmall 240 battery drain victory

After much hair pulling and going in circles, I discovered that the amp gauge had gone to ground. Now the next thing I need to know is about the hydraulics. I looked all over that valve casting assembly and could not find a check plug. Does it use the transmission oil for the hydraulics? I checked the rearend and oil came out when I loosened the plug. There is an oil cap in front of where the distributor is mounted. I take it this is where engine oil is added. One step at a time, I guess. Thanks for the input.

If yours doesn't have a check plug on the valve casting then it pulls the oil from the transmission.

The hydraulic oil is in the clutch housing. It's a large hex plug on the top of the clutch housing towards the front left.

"Fudd" Good morning. When you peeked in the mirror this a.m. are you loosing hair? I had two International 240's years back and I 'tink ' the hydraulic fluid is checked by turning out a small cap screw, hex head bolt or machine screw (they may have been changed over the years by folks) that is located on the left side of the transfer case below the left foot rest. I'm sure it is the same with your F-240 as that is my check point for F & U 460's and my F-340's. Fill the system until fluid begins to run from this opening. Yup, you are correct on the locale for filling engine oil. An [/i]IH Operator's Manual[i:2a91cbedd8] and [/i:2a91cbedd8]Maintenance Manual can be a great help. A Wisconsin feller, Mike Becker 'The Paper Farmer' 715-726-1942 gots 'em. Earlier this week I acquired more paper from him. Again, if you want someone knowledgeable regarding the 240 Farmall, holler for Farmallhal. I'm sure he would share his know how, email, etc. Good luck with your project and enjoy!

Never knew how much to add to mine... 1/2" from top is good to know, and I have a re-pro operators manual. I just filled a little over where it started causing a problem. Doesn't leak much, think in all the years I've had it, I've added some twice.

Thank you so much, a picture is worth a thousand words. When I get the electrical part back together, I will pursue this. I really appreciate the info and have a great day.

Fudd, I see my friend Al L in Wisconsin noted in this thread my interest in Farmall 240's and I would be most happy to share anything I have learned in my restoration efforts on these rare Farmall tractors. They are certainly unique and unfortunately almost nothing unique to them is being reproduced due to the low original production numbers. My email is halrussell at embarqmail dot com if you care to contact me concerning your 240. I have all the IHC printed literature I am aware of on this tractor model and will be most happy to share anything I can to assist in your efforts, Hal.

Thank you for your reply, I will keep your e mail handy. I have a 400 but it is somewhat different. I can not see buying a manual as I probably will never see this 240 again. Thanks again.
