706 Brake Valve

Been working on my Farmall 706 brakes right side that was destroyed when I got it. Got it all put back together and now the side I replaced are stuck on. There is constant pressure in the line when it is running just on the right side (the side I fixed). I adjusted the pedals and still have pressure. Haven't tore into the power brake assy yet not sure what i'm looking for. Any Ideas? TIA
 
Well in all the 706's that i have been into i have NEVER had to get into a brake valve . Now there is ALWAY a little leakage when you open the bleeder with the engine running BUT it is not enough pressure to apply the brake.Myself i think you have and adjuster problem . And now that you have played with the brake valve i have no idea what all you have done and not being able to look at it myself i am not sure where to tell you to go . Did you replace the return springs?? did you get it assembled correctly ?? did you work on the self adjuster and replace the spring clips?? is the self adjuster set correctly ?? If it was screwed up before are you sure that it was put together wright .Pictures need pictures or if ya ain't far from me then you need me to make a service call , but i am not cheap.
 
only thing i did to the brake valve is adjust the pedals and the spool. On the brakes itself they had blown a oring and never bothered to fix it looks like. Yes i cleaned it all up and reassembled it from the manual self adjusters screwed all the way in and 2 clicks back out with new spring clips. new o rings and 4 new springs (not cheap at all). and new brake pads. if i open the bleeder valve while idling oil shoots up in the air.
 
Then the brake valve is not adjusted correctly , if it is shooting fluid into the air then you have a problem . As it will Ouzz some out but not shoot out. What is the left brake doing ??
 
when you say stuck on, do you mean the brakes drag, or they lock up the wheel enough to skid the tire as you drive it?

if it is locked up solid and you're sure the problem is in the valve, one thing to check is pop off the aluminum cover from the top of the brake valve, and there should be a phillips head screw holding the pistons to each valve spool. see if they are intact and tight. they should be bottomed out.

many years ago i had one of those screws let go of its head and locked up the wheel.
 
When the pedals contact the floor plate, the brake valve spool should be fully retracted with some slack in the linkages ...also the valve piston retainer screw may be broken or backed out

the early valves were a little touchy when applying the brakes, later designs added an orifice to the inlet to slow the oil some

Later designs replaced this screw with a larger nut ..if you look how this valve works, this small screw is pulled on each time you push the brake pedal. A large amount of force can be applied to this fastener by a heavy foot on the pedal

anyways ..easy to break the screw
 
If you end up having to replace the brake valve assembly, get one for a newer tractor. The 706 used an open center valve that allowed 1 gpm through the valve all the time. The later valves are closed center and allow the 1 gpm flow only when applying the brakes. By using the later valve you will have an extra 1 gpm of oil available for the TA and lube circuit.
 
There is something thats not letting the spool retract all the way back. Would this screw on the top do this? when I say stuck on I mean the brake drags pretty hard but tire does not skid. The other brake seems to function properly.
 
That screw under the cover in end of brake valve would definitely cause your problem if it has worked loose. Has happened.
 
well that was the problem the screw. it was busted off instead of just loose, got the pc out, not sure about parts though
 
OK ordered the body cap gasket and 2 screws be here in the morning. Think I'm going to replace the screw that's still in it.
