Read all the time about how the 706 and 756 were so similar other than the gear shifters - So much so that Nebraska did not even bother to test the 756.

My question is how did the 806 and 856 compare to each other? I know the 856 had a slighty bigger engine and a few more ponies but other than that not much else.

You pretty much covered it.The D407(856) put out
about 10-25 more horses than the D361(806).The early
D361 had IH's own 'RD' injection pump.Later ones
used the good old RoosaMaster pump. There were a few
'minor' improvements(tilt steering,hydralic
seat...)For all intents and purposes(other than the
shifter and HP issue),they were basicly the same
tractor.IMHO

the RH seat support that contains the hydraulic pieces was updated also. on the 806, the unloading valve is retained by a snap ring. on the 56 it is retained by a threaded plug.
