H rear axle felt - reuse or new?

Wanted to get opinions on whether to reuse or replace the rear axle felt seal 43720D. They are around $9 new and I have made my own from felt sheets from McMaster Carr on my project H's.
What determines if the felt needs to be replaced?
The one I am working on now the felt is in good shape, did not get damaged getting the oil seal out, just oil soaked.

Also is a new felt installed dry or should it be "lubed"?

Another winter H project in the works! :)

Opinions welcome!!

I am anxious to see others comments, but I am in the process of a restoration and my plan was to replace with new.

Wash the felt in solvent to clean it as much as you can, dry it and then reinstall. I usually only replace them if they are torn, mangled, or dry rotted.

Well, since you asked..... I"ve more or less restored lots on my 1950 "H", and if at all possible I go to the CaseIH dealer, buy new, and then buy 3 or 4 more new. Helps the dealer, no doubt it"ll be the correct one, the amount of money doesn"t matter, stick the spares on the shelf. You never want to see your dealer "Closing - Out Of Business,"

I replaced them by new, from the dealer. Especially on a working tractor it is cheap investment.
Before installing I soaked the felt seals in heavy gear oil.

My 2c.

I've always used new but every one I've replaced has been a factory original. Cheap insurance. Soak them in gear oil and install them.
