49 farmall h starting prblems

I,ve been trying to start up a 49 H model it has a new battery cables is pos. grounded rebuilt carb is getting gas has spark it,ll start with starting fluid but won,t stay running need some help on this one does any one have any ideas
 
Hold your hand over the throat of the carburetor while a helper makes an attempt to start the engine. Make sure your tranny is out of gear & brakes are set. If you have very little suction on your hand means you have low intake manifold vacuum. Also do a compression test. The engine needs good manifold vacuum to suck that atomized fuel into the combustion chamber. If the plugs aren't wet from choking, you're not getting gas. Hal
 
Is the rotor lined up with the tower when it fires on TDC. You can remove all the plugs then with #1 plug grounded put your thumb over the hole and turn the enhine over and watch if it fires when the engine hits compression at the top of the stroke. If you have a mag its possible the rotor isnt lined up on the tower when it fires.
 
Carb may be getting gas but the engine isn't start there. Could be a needle and seat stck closed.
