before i took apart tractor,,,, steering tower .. was loose so when
you hit bump it would knocck down idle,, when i reassembled i
found third bolt that was never put in ,, and thats why tower was
loose,, so i figured when i got it tight it would fix idle being
knocked back down,.. but is worse you have to hold trottle in high
rpm or it will just knock it back down ,,,,,what causes gov. to do
that... thanks

The throttle has a rachet device on the lever to retain the position the spring may be weak, or the ratchet notches worn out. They can be filed and the spring replaced from the hardware store. Jim

thanks ,,i will check that spring again and teeth,, tryed another washer under spring ,needed a little thiner washer. ,,, dewy

The correct operation of a ratchet throttle is to lean the lever out and away from it, then make your adjustment, and finally bring the lever back in to engage the ratchet.

Most people just drag the lever across the teeth. Because it's not hardened metal, that wears them out quick.

New throttle levers and ratchet quadrants can be purchased online.
