Gauge bracket for ps onSm

Do you sometimes have to slot the casting holes so the gauge bracket will be low enough for the hood to rest in the right position? Thanks DTK.

I don't know. I have one for my SM that I am going to do whatever is necessary. The Super M I am working on and a previous M both have power steering which the previous owners beat the underside of the hoods with a hammer. Seems there are a lot of lazy M "mechanics" around. It may be possible to adjust the steering rod, but I haven't gotten that far yet. Someone else will have a better answer which will help me also.

Is assume Char-Lynn. Mine isn't slotted and fits well but close. I have a bolt through the coupler right below the unit on the steering shaft. I had to get rid of all of the extra threads once the nut was on as they hit the under side of the hood. The steering shaft does rub a bit on the hood just above the torque generator (where the shaft starts to run outside the hood). They sure didn't allow you any wiggle room.

Thanks for the replies, any more info would be appreciated. I slotted the top two holes in the casting a little and I will grind some metal off the top of where the gauges are mounted. Hopefully that will be all I need. Thanks DTK.

You might be able to add some thicker rubber pads under the gas tank to raise it up that way the hood will set up a little higher also. It is possible after about 60 years the orginal pads might be a little smaller.
