ot: 550 V-8

Hey guys I"ve decided it"s time to retire and am trying to sell my 1969 1850 Int. truck. I haven"t had any lookers in the month I"ve advertised it locally so here"s the question, it has 550 diesel, 5 sp tran single axle hoist and single speed rearend. I don"t need it but the local truck yard is offering me $500-600 for it. Is this engine worth trying to save or should I just scrap it? Thanks Frank

yea someone out there is probably looking long and hard for one that runs . Now if the truck is still road worthy then i would say that it has to be worth 2500 bucks . You could even hit it the head and part it out and get more then the scrap yard wants to give as i am sure they would want over a grand for the engine and five to eight hundred for the transmission and somewhere close to that for the pig out of the rear end , then ya have the tires and rims and cab parts .

DO NOT SCRAP IT! Thats the same engine thats used in the 1468 and 1568 tractors, engine parts are almost non exsistant for them anymore and guys pay good money for them for parts or as a replacement. I'd gladly give you 600$ for the engine if it runs as i have a 1468.

I have been told that the 9 liter diesel that was offered in many IH Trucks is also the same engine as the D-550, but I have never been able to determine if that was correct or not.

Do you know if it is?

Hi guys thanks for the replies. I thought it was the same engine as used in the 68 series but wasn't sure. As for the truck it was comepletely refurbished about 5 yrs. ago by the farmer I bought it from including new paint. The cab is immaculate but the box is a little rough. I used every year and will be hauling beans in it this year but then retiring and selling everything. I am in extreme s.e. michigan(30mi. west of toledo)so I guess I'll take pics and post on here, just not sure under what heading. Thanks, Frank

Silly Question, but how have you been advertising it? I'm pretty close to you (Blissfield) and I don't remember seeing anything about such a truck. What else might you be selling? -Andy
