Value of plow?

I am looking at several plows. 6-7 bottom mold board plows in 16" or 18". Most have spring reset. These are generally IH 710 or 720 plows. One is a comparable Deere with adjustable width. All are on land hitches. Average to good shape, no junk. I am willing to pay a fair price for value but I know that something sitting on Craigs or ebay for months on end is probably overpriced. Has anyone seen similar on land plows sell at auction recently? Like to know what they really bring these days with so many people not using them.

Friend of mine has the JD adjustable width and it's pretty handy. 8 bottom adjustable, I think, from 16 to 20 or 22". As his 4640 lost power from hours, all he had to do was narrow it up, then when he got a 4WD NH, he just widened it back out.

It"s not an auction price, but my brother in law just sold a 6-18 ih 710 to a neighbor for $1500. The iron was wore but still usable. Average shape overall.

Everyone of those I am finding is asking $3500 and up. I've had a few dealers tell me they were dumping them for scrap a few years ago, "obsolete" was what they called them. I am just doing a few acres and want to go old school. I'm thinking these guys are speculating. Maybe I wait until one hits the consignment auctions.

They seem to be bringing 2-3000 grand here too lately. I've been looking for awhile now too. I've been using a neighbors so I haven't been in a hurry. I just found a 4-18 720 in excellent condition which will match my 766D nicely. I gave $500 which comparatively speaking was a steal IMO.

He said he didn't bat an eye and wrote a check right then and there. It was probably on the cheap side. If you have to spend that much, you may as well look for a good disc chisel. They're not worth a crap for sod, but do a nice job on everything else.

Casey, is that "bringing" or "asking"? Are these folks actually getting that amount or are they just sitting there not selling? I am thinking that is a lot of money for a 30 year old plow that most people don't want/use anymore. Around here there are several in the $3-4000 range. No bites.

There seems to be an abundance of IH 720 5-18's around here. 5 years ago you couldn't give one away. The last year or two they bring $1500-2000 all day long on farm sale. Lots of CRP tore up the last few years, they got popular again. A good 6 or 7 bottom IH 720 or even a Deere will bring $2-3000 easily.

Every region has different prices but this is what Ive seen in N.Iowa. The big onland hitch plows are bringing BIG money. The guys with deere track tractors really like them. My neighbor just bought a ten bottom 800 for $5000 and thought he got a buy on it. 720 five or six bottom 18" toggle trips are in the $1500 range but with auto resets as high as $2500. 710 plows just don't seem to sell well unless they have auto resets then they bring around a grand.I bought a 720 toggle last winter on an auction for $400 but it needed lots of love. I have more than double that in it now.

Chemical farming or steel farming, what will it be? I know in my part of the country the chemicals are not working as well but the steel just keeps on killing weeds.
