roosa master timing problems

I have a 560d that I've been working on for quite some time. The tractor has been rebuilt and I'm having problems timing the roosa master injector pump. I have the engine timed to 3 degrees before top dead center, but when I look through the timing window on the pump, the mark has been worn off. I was told how to time the pump by putting air in #1 port on the injector pump and pushing out the plungers, but I've forgotten what to do and lost the link.Is there anyone that can help me or give me a link to go to? All input is appreciated,ARKIE.

If you hook up an air-line to the #1 discharge port
on the injection pump, and rotate backwards . . .
you will hear the rollers lock into place when in
position to fire. I can post a full essay on the
subject from my Allis Chalmers HD4 manual if you
want.

Thanks so much for replying. If you could post the essay without much trouble, I would really appreciate it.When I hear the rollers lock in place, would that be the time to etch or engrave a mark that matches the other mark in my timing window? Thanks again for your time!

From the Allis Chalmers HD4 manual:

Procedure for air-timing when pump timing marks
are "questionable" or missing.

A. Connect air pressure (30 to 100 PSI) to fuel
discharge port #1. You might have to fabricate
something to do this. I use the banjo-end from an
old injector line hooked to an air-chuck.

B. Viewing the timing line on the pump-cam
through the timing window, rotate the pump in
normal direction of rotation (with pressurized air
line hooked up).

C. When resistance is felt, the cam rollers
inside the pump are just contacting the cam
(getting ready to inject).

D. At this point, the two timing lines in the
pump window should be in line. If not, one is
incorrect.

Thank you for posting this. I will try to do this before the weekend and let you know how it works out. ARKIE

Dieseltech would that mean I would need to rotate shaft an additional 63.5 degrees to time the pump correctly?

The 63.5 degree mark is placed on the retainer after location on Stanadyne timing tool. Pump must come apart to remove the retainer to check the mark.
