OT, not a IH , but confirm my suspicions

Look down at the temp gauge on our Farm Trac and it was pegged to the red. Problem was it had only been running for 60 seconds at best. Trying to confirm it is the sending unit. Gauge will sometimes be pegged, sometimes read normal and sometime fluctuate up and down. If I remove the wire it drops all the way back, if I ground the wire it pegs. With the wire removed during use it stays all the way down. So gauge seems to be working properly (pegged grounded and stays all the way back removed) and since it stays all the way down with the wire removed I guess the wire is good. That leaves the sending unit correct???

Thanks Clint

Unless the wire is shorted to ground and when you disconnect it it moves the wire enough so that it doesn't short when not connected.

I had the same problem with an Oliver 1850. Replacing the temp sender got the gage working correctly again.

That's what I thought too. Traced the wire up and it seems intact. Will either OHM the wire out or run a temp. one to check on that. The gauge does not move when I wiggle the wire and leave it connected so I think it is intact.
