300 sheetmetaal

i am trying to paint the sheet metal on my 300 over and i put two coats on it so far but when i went down there this morning to put clear coat on i had realized that after i applied it the red paint start to peel!? what is the problem im new a air brushing so i don't know a hole lot sheet metal to cold? thanks!

It sounds like a common problem that occurs when the "flash time" of the paint is not followed. "Flash Time" is the amount of time needed to allow all the "solvents in the paint to breath off. Putting several heavy coats of paint on top of each other will trap the solvents and it will cause the paint to bubble, peel, or whatever. Same principal applies to the clear coat application. Each paint manufacture has specific Flash times or "recoat" times listed on the can or website. Other possible issues that can contribute to your issue is temperature changes, humidity levels so on so forth.

Not enough information.

How did you prepare the metal? What primer did you use? What paint did you use? What reducer did you use?

There are about 1000 different places where you could've screwed up, unfortunately.

Evan gave you the correct answer--If you wait too long between coats the paint will lift. With quality paint you should be able to apply coats 5-10 minutes apart, or until it flashes or begins to dry. If you are using clear, you should be using the base-clear system, there are specific instructions from PPG, DuPont, etc. If you are mixing brands of paint you are taking a risk of something going wrong.

I worked in a body shop for 45 years so i have done a lot of painting. If you are tring to paint c/c over enamel this will happen. Sand back down - use a 2 part primer [ one with a hardner] 2 coats - sand with 320 paper - paint to cover with base coat color. [requires no hardner] - apply 2 coats of c/c [requires hardner]. you can let the primer set as long as you want, [once you sand it paint it] let base coat dry about 1hr. then c/c. do not let base coat set over night without c/c ing as it will peal off in the future. Do not paint if it is real cold as the paint will be runing all over. Make sure parts are degreesed before you start sanding down. Take your time between coats to let tack up. Good Luck --- Boggie
