IH Model 60 plow

I got a 3 bottom model 60 plow from a buddy that
needs some attention. Please advise on the
following:

1. The furrow wheel has a 15" tire while the land
tire is 14". Is this correct?

2. The coulters need to be changed. What size
should I install and should they be straight or
wavy?

Thanks in advance for your response. (I posted
this identical question on redpowermagazine in
case someone misses it.)

I have a 3 x 14 model 60 plow that is mechanical lift and I have 15 inch land-wheel and the furrow-wheel is 14 inch. I bought this plow on an auction 9 years ago. So I have no idea what is correct.

Plow coulter were available from IH in three different styles. There were Plain, Notched, and Rippled edge coulters.

I'm interested in seeing if anybody else will check their # 60 and get back to us.

Go with the wavy ones and i am not sure on the size but thinking they are either 16 or 18 inch my 710 has 20 so they must be 16 . Been twenty years since i had any # 60 plows as for awhile i could not buy and haul them home fast enough .

14" wheels are standard, 15" are optional on either side.

There's a whopping 1/2" of difference in axle height from one to the other. It won't make any difference in how the plow works.

I think 14" because it was a common car tire size in the day. To save money you'd buy the plow with no tires and put some old car tires on it. If you were "Mr Got Rocks Farmer" you splurged and got the fancy implement tires on 15" rims.

Coulter style depends on what you're trying to plow. I don't know if wavy was around when these plows were new.

Just take a bag with you when you go to price new coulters. You will need it because you will lose your lunch when they give you the price.

The IH manual I have for my #60 plow said both wheel tires were 6:70 X 15. I just bought 2 new 5 rib imp tires and tubes for it.

According to the manual for a clutch lift #60 3 bottom plow both land and furrow wheels (tires) are 6:70 X 15. A non-directional lug-type tire is used on the land wheel, the furrow tire is a farm imp type. The rear furrow wheel is a 4.00 X 12 tire.
