We have an IH 844S tractor in daily use on the farm. The near side tie rod end (ball joint) broke two weeks ago. The tie rod carries part number 314 795 8 R93. I called Case IH here in Australia and was quoted $865 + tax. Cheaper to get a new one made....

If I were in your situation, I would post here AND start looking on ebay. Ebay can provide a lot of contacts:guys who peddle tractor parts. Drop them an email. I have had some success with this method.
Shipping to you would be around $50, more less.
Most of the small stuff shipped "by slowboat) (6 monthes) get tossed in the next plane anyway and you'll get your part in a week or 2.

I went to an auto parts supplier and got tie rod ends that would work on the application,cut the old ends off with a chop saw and welded the new tie rod ends on,put everything together..a lot cheaper than OEM parts..take the old end with you so they can match up closely,also our Carquest parts store can often get parts for tractors,lawn mowers,machinery belts etc..
 
I was just on Tractorhouse, when I remembered your post. They show three 844S' under the "Dismantled Machines" section near the bottom of their front page. There is one listed in Australia. It's a two-wheel drive & looks to be in ok shape. Also, the part number you gave came up as a good number on this side of the puddle at CaseIH's parts site. Says it's $278 even. That doesn't sound too bad, but I don't know how much it costs to have one made.

Thanks everyone! I have now had a new tie rod made by a local engineer 6 miles down the road. He has made the new one so that I can just replace the ball joints at either end. Ball joint is part number 321 727 9 R1. Called Case IH here and they said they would call me with a price… no response yet. I try to get most of the parts I need from the U.S. because your prices are much better and parts suppliers are much more helpful than here. The trouble I have had with the 844S is that it is a German IH tractor and there do not seem to be a huge number around. Anway, if anyone has a ball jount 3217279R1, I would love to buy it! Thanks again,
