IHC simi mount mower on 48 H

I got my simi mount IHC sickle mower mounted on my 48 H. It tilts towards the front by around 4 or 5 inches. Is it supposed to be that way? that tilts the gear box forward which puts the PTO shaft at more of a cant whereas if it was straight the shaft would nearly be straight. Im wondering IF it was straight IF the sickle bar could be tilted more upward.

There is a hand knob on the cutter bar to tilt it as need for your crop conditions. I use a 27V IH mower on my JD H and my JD B with homemade mounting brackets. The frame of the mower runs "downhill" on both to varying degrees but never seemed to bother anything, and I've used the mower for 38 years like that. The important thing is to get the tilt of sickle bar adjusted right for your conditions. There are numerous adjustments on a sickle mower that need to be right to have it cut well. The old John Deere "Care and Operation of Farm Machinery" books explained them really well. If you can get one of the books it will help a lot.

#1 Ive got the drawbar flipped down. That's the only adjustment on the mower I can make for frontal highth. That's the mower drawbar.

#2 Adjusting register means moving the outer end of the bar forward to be in line with the pitman, not tilting the bar up[ or down.

Adjusting the register means ensuring the knife sections start the stroke with the tips inside the guards and end their stroke with the tips inside the guards.
Adjusting the cutter bar lead means moving the outer end of the cutter bar forward or back.
The mower frame should be level when attached to your tractor.
The outer shoe should lead the inner shoe slightly.
You can set cutter bar height by altering the sole settings on the inner and outer shoes.
You can adjust the tilt with the cast iron tilting knob.
The pto shaft should run straight - you should not be making the two universal joints work hard.
Do you have an Owner's Manual? Happy to give you one. It has all the settings and correct dimensions.
Good luck,

If it is attached to the U-shaped drawbar on the H, you can raise the U-shaped drawbar.

Simply put a jack under the middle, and remove the bolts from the diagonal brace on each side. Jack the drawbar up until it's the right height, and the bolt holes line up. Replace the bolts.

Your absolutely right on the terms. Sorry bout that.

No I don't have an Owners Manual, and yes id like to have one.
Ive set the bar as high as it will go by the slides under the shoes.
Ive adjusted the tilt to suit also.

I just need to know HOW to adjust the lead.

Hi Farmallb. You should be able to send me an e-mail if you look at this thread in Modern View. I'll try to get it to make my e-mail available through Classic View too.
