6v starter for WD9?

Went to an IH auction yesterday and bought several h4 magnetos and this starter. I thought it was an M starter. Dad said it was too big. Looking up the numbers on the tag. it is a 6v Starter for a WD9.

Did Ih make 6v wd9's I thought 9's were 12v?

A W9 and a WD9 (gas and Diesel) use the same block. So probably the same starter, one 6v the other 12. (opinion)

Delco number on the metal tag read, 1108920 or 1108943 or 1113011? If so a gas 9 starter. Looks like a 9 starter missing the switch.

The numbers on the tag are 1108920 and 17043

I found the 1108920 number in my nnalert catalog. it says W9,WD9 WR9,and WDR9. It is listed under 6v starters.

There is also a WD9 starter listed under 12v with different numbers.

Did Ih use both 6 and 12v starters on the WD9 or this starter just for the W9 gas?

I just checked an IH parts manual and 1108920 is a starter was used on the W-9 and WR-9. As far as I know, all WD-9's are 12 volt. The aftermarket catalogues occasionally have errors in them--best to use IH's parts manuals for this stuff.

Also, WD-9's & W-9's don't use the same engine block. Similar, but not the same.
