Bosses broke on my Super C. Appears cast iron to me. Can anyone (1) confirm these are indeed built from cast iron and (2) what would be the repair options. thanks

unfortunately no. Got the tractor the tractor this way, it was my dads. Actually I have thought about forming some metal but that may prove pretty difficult.

No doubt it is a casting. Pretty hard to repair. Is it something you are going to use or just cosmetic? I would try to find a used one. IMO

I may just start searching, there us also a boss broken on the bell housing right side as u sit on the tractor

You could grind the break flat, machine a part, and braze it on, but the result would not be very strong. How about cutting and drilling a plate to bolt on over that whole side of the casting? You'd have to drill and tap a hole or two in the casting, but, assuming that the extra width would not be a problem, you'd have the same hole pattern.

I believe it's called the [u:03f4a5530e]front bolster[/u:03f4a5530e], at least that is it on a wide front end. I believe a C through 230 should be the same, but not 100% sure.
Whoops, just looked in my parts book and the bolster n a trike front is the post between the spindles and the part you need. what you need is a "Housing, steering gear, Assy."

That is a good option john, thanks. I actually ran that thru my mind last nite but dismissed it for some reason, thanks.

If originality is the objective, the casting can be welded (off and clean is best) then re drilled and tapped. Or a different good one is in order.
If just used and not shown, I would drill new holes inboard and up from the old ones and re drill the mounting plate. Jim

Get a good replacement from a salvage yard. Fairly big installation job, but not that difficult.

I have one like that , I just hid it under a set of frame weights. It works for me as don"t use it to bolt anything to.

Well I guess I could do that, but my goal is to intall a small front end loader for snow and move my firewood. If I can find one reasonable I will replace, otherwise I will weld'er up.

What would be the lifting capacity of a loader for a C?

Compared to other tractors, the torque tube on a
C is pretty light for much loader work. A loader to fit a C may be hard to find, expensive and not quick to remove when not needed. Why not look for a $1500 H or M that has a trip loader already mounted on it and and leave the C as-is? That would give you a permanent loader tractor and leave your very handy C for other yard work.

(quoted from post at 19:40:58 09/21/13) What would be the lifting capacity of a loader for a C?

Dad had a loader on a C (after I left home of course) and it is not meant for very heavy lifting. Pretty light weight pipe loader meant for manure and snow, with a trip fork and snow extension. Saw a lot of them as a kid back in the '50s, but probably not many left now. Mom sold Dad's C and loader when she left the farm in the mid/late '90s.

The factory loader mounts to the rear and front bolster tying it all together. It will be cheaper to buy a M or H that already has a loader(thats the story we all tell our wifes)and sometime it is!

I have a 300 for heavier work we use that. This is just to move my already split and stacked firewood from the shed to the basement and to move a little snow. I find the SC much easier to steer and move around plus I had it from dad, already have a loader so we are a go, thanks

No intention for heavy work, I just have the loader
and SC. Loader is not much and needs some TLC same
as the tractor, but I have the time. I will just use
it for light work, nice little tractor for small
jobs

Sparky70: I read through the responses. If you are considering a loader I have a C-32 that is complete with a standard bucket and a snow blade that it stored in the shed and available. Pictures available.
