starter band gasket

Removed the starter from my BN to clean and lube it and when I took off the band that covers the slots over the brushes the gasket dissintegrated. None of my books show anything for this and was wondering what you guys thought is a good substitute to make one. Thanks....Fred

Gasket material or even a piece of a cereal box works good for that one.

Duct tape. Trim off the excess after installing the band.

I make mine with gasket material remove and replace the steel clip to hold in place,

I found that any tape like duct tape or masking tape deteriorates and the next time you go to take off the brush cover it is either all sticky or dried out and/or hard. I prefer some type of thin cardboard. Roger

I buy gasket material in 12" x 20" x 1/32" size. It comes in a roll and I just slice off the correct width before unrolling it. You end up with a strip that is a couple of inches too long that I just trim to length.

Black electric tape works good. I have a roll of 2 inch tape and after a few wraps I install the band and trim off the excess. I have not had any problem with it drying out. I like using the black tape because it keeps the moisture out.
