I NEED HELP,OR A PICTURE of M Crankshaft oil slinger

Im putting together what someone else tore apart long ago.Im putting seals in front engine cover and cant remember what holds that oil slinger in place(THE ONE THAT GOES OVER THE CRANKSHAFT BEFORE THE FRONT COVER IS INSTALLED).is it a key in the back key slot?If so,What keeps it from sliding on back to the crankshaft gear and just clanging around? Its been awhile since Ive been into one and just cant remember how that oil slinger is supposed to be in there..Thanks to you guys in advance for any help.

Goes in front of the crank gear then front cover installed. The crankshaft pulley presses the slinger between it and the crank gear when its installed.

Thanks a lot.I got all that straight in my head now,and developed another trouble. My full gasket kit has the round felt seal for the front cover, but didnt come with the metal and rubber outer seal(the one that seals out all dirt)NATIONAL SEAL # 6519,So I went to O Reilly's this afternoon to get that seal and it supposedly switched over to National 9449,and its nowhere close(falls through the hole) Grrr!,So back to town again tomorrow after church to see if I can really confuse these dudes.Im gonna ask them to show me how this new seal fits in the empty hole.Should be fun,and a fella needs some cheap entertainment nowadays. Thanks Guys

The felt ring is for the water pump to seal between the pulley and the pump.

The original seal was felt with a retainer and leather with the lip facing forward. You will not find any replacement parts like that. All you will get is the spring loaded lip type seal. Just install it so it is on an unworn part of the pulley.

The original seal is installed lip forward to keep dirt from being blow past it from the fan blast. I always install the new style seal with the lip to the oil side. If you install it like the original you run the risk of the spring rusting apart and releasing the tension on the seal lip.

Thanks for the info..I cannot remember for sure,,Does the felt install behind the front rubber/spring one ,or is the felt just a part of the seal?

LOL,I was totally shocked.I know several timing components for these older tractors that were once no stock, are at least being made aftermarket again.I bought a new cam gear through IH 5 yrs ago for $150..I had always just slapped the front cover back on,and never had one leak, but this had sat for lots of years apart in the barn. The felt in the old seal was hard as heck. Thanks
