I'm having a problem with a friends 404 gas tractor, hyd not working good, we changed the filter and cleaned the screen, he said use this oil to refill it, its HY-Trans, he said that's what he's been putting in it, I say 90wt is what should be used, it's only a 3 point system, no remote, no power steering, who's correct??? TIA

Hytran is the hydraulic oil needed. Other brands that meet IH or JD spec for Hydraulic Transmission fluid are OK. Heavy gear oil is not. Jim

I was hoping I was right, the more the tractor is run the weaker and slower the 3 pt gets due to thinning, guess it's time to drop back and punt.

A higher viscosity Hydraulic Transmission oil is available. Trying that first might be easiest and save money. Mobil has one as does Shell, and others. It is about 20W40 in viscosity, but your job is to find what you need. It is not a pure hydraulic oil, it needs to be compliant with gear lube (transmissions) Jim
