International 454 Hydrostat Transmission

Hello, I think my tractor was run with low hydraulic fluid in it. It quit pulling all of sudden and now won't move at all. All of the other hydraulics work fine and the PTO works fine. There is a rattle or noise coming from where the transmission is bolted to the engine. I am fixing the tractor but, I would like to know what it might take to repair it. Also, I am curious if it would be more economical to switch the tranny with a gear transmission.

If you had a complete donor tractor I guess it would be ok,but there are a lot of factors come into play.
I have the 4 speed model with Hi and Lo.

Sounds like the 'flex plate' on the flywheel stripped the splines.Simple repair,it does require splitting the tractor. As far as "swapping the transmission",cant do it.Oh,I guess you could but it would be horificly/probhibitively expencive. You could probably buy 2 tractors for the cost of the 'convertion'.

Thank You for the help. I was thinking it may be something concerning the flywheel at the transmission. It is a very good tractor and since it tore up the other day I have been sick about it because I should have checked the fluid but didn't. The power steering is leaking which is the problem with the fluid. It will get fixed while I am working on it. Once again thanks.

The splines (if that is the issue, and it sounds like it) are dry and the oil level is not an issue. Jim
