What is the torque of the head studs on a gas M ? Also should the valve tappets be set around .017 ? Thanks Jeff

head torque is 110lbs. torque in 3 stages. start at around 40-50 lbs. then around 80 and then final of 110lbs. then just recheck them all. set valves to .017 hot. warm up tractor for about 1/2 hr. then retorque head to spec. and readjust valves. hot does not mean hot hot as long as its warm its good.
i use permatex high tack sealer on gasket, but many use coppercoat.

Thanks are you talking about high tack on the head gasket? Should'nt the head gasket be put on dry?

yes, i use it on all my head gaskets and all other gaskets. it is tacky and holds gaskets in place. gaskets also come off easily too if you have to remove them. also its not like you got a bunch of goop squeezing out after torquing. i like the stuff and it works good. i have used it on a good many 282 diesel engines and not a seep, as these engines are a gasket tester i say.

thanks for the replies I have used high tack before. Will get it back together for our show next weekend. Antique Engine and Tractor Association. Geneseo ILL web site www.ae-ta.com featuring International tractors.
