I have a Farmall tractor that I need to determine the model and it does not have a tag on the seat bracket. This tractor is configured like an A in that the engine and drive train are off center to the left side of the tractor. Yet the tractor has a narrow front an a engine serial number that is FAB160001 Can anybody help me out here?

It is a hybrid of both. Possibly one of only a few made by the owner. Old (a Missourian who post here near every day has one he built and seems to work the tail off of while smiling) Jim

You could have a 'hybrid',as many/most parts are interchangeable.'B', the engine is centered and will have a single or 'narrow' front.Only the operator is 'offset. 'A',Both engine and operator are ofset from center.Engine on left, operator on right. It will have a wide front.'A' was consisered a one row cultivator.'B' was considered a two row cultivator.

FAB is the prefix of a B. The left diff housing and shaft were removed and then the diff shaft from an A was used. Lots have been changed for the belley mowers. Ive done several and use one myself for the mower. You can change it back to the original B with the housing and shaft and of course a drawbar. I have the housing and shaft if you would like.

A "B" (FAB*** is the serial number prefix for a B, not a BN)that has be altered and is not exactly safe to operate. The offset A and SA etc. eventually had a heavy cast center for the right rear wheel to reduce the tendency of overturning to the narrow side. The right rear wheel on the B did not have that heavy cast center. I had one of those that I fixed back to the original "B" configuration.

Yep my BA is one handy little sickle bar mowing machine

Had a Allis BC once. Actually a nice little working unit. Front half was a B and the back half was a C. Guy that owned the old tractor place in town did the fabrication.

Hey, before we go off half-cocked telling this guy he has a "hybrid," let's ask one question:

Is the left hand final drive bolted directly to the transmission, or is there an extension tube between the transmission and the final drive?

Looking at the B/BN from the right side, you'd think the engine is offset to the left.

Fact of the matter is, on a B/BN, the OPERATOR'S PLATFORM is offset to the RIGHT. The engine is actually centered between the rear wheels.

Thank all of you for the info you shared with me. Your replies answered my question and solved my problem. Gene Bender's post really helped since this tractor has a Woods belly mower on it and it was probably converted for that reason. When the tractor gets sold I will let the new owner know that you have the parts to convert the tractor back to an original B.

Yes you just need the diff shaft for an A then just bolt it to the tranny. Some even have moved the right side in for Rasberrys, grapes and so forth.
