farmall A gen. belt removal

The fan hub has a couple lock nuts on it. You loosen those nuts and then you turn the one hub part so it loosens up so that in turn let you remove it form the crank shaft pulley. They can be a bear to get to loosen up so you may need to use a punch and hammer

No there is not a special tool to remove the belt. If your tractor has a water pump one of the two pulleys has a set screw in part of the pulley. Loosen the screw (I believe it is a 1/2 inch wrench and a flat screwdriver) and turn the outer half of the pulley. If it does NOT have a pump the spindle the main pulley is mounted on (i.e. where the pump would be) has 2 flat spots on the shaft behind the pulley to loosen ALL the belts.

You need a wrench thin enough to get between the fan pulley and the support bracket. There are flats on the shaft for the wrench to engage. You turn the fan pulley shaft which is threaded on the engine side. The nut is held captive in the bracket so all you need to do to loosen it is to turn the fan shaft.

I have just gone through the process of putting on a new generator belt. It is not as long as it looks when you are going to install it. It will not fit over the fan blades one at a time, and removing the spindle, (nut and washer behind the support, flat spanner in front) will not give you clearance, at least not on my 44 A. Spare yourself a lot of time and effort. Drain the antifreeze and take off the radiator. That is so you can get the fan blades clear of the contraption it is bolted to. Rest of the job is easy. I cleaned my fan blades and did a bit of painting while assembly was apart. good luck.

DO NOT turn the nut close to the head instead turn the shaft loose turning the shaft next to the blades. The nut in the back of the bracket slides in that bracket when the shaft is loose. You then after getting the fanassy to drop to its lowest position then you can get the new belt over the fan one blade at a time not an easy task but it can be done. i have been doing it for yrs. The B and C are the same way.

The A does not have that set-up the A,B,C and SC do not have that screw you talk about you must not have done the job on an A.

The hub does not have a couple of nuts you must have worked on a cobbled up one you loosen the shaft with a wrench next to the pulley.
