can a magneto kill switch cause the cub to shut down with out warning, this 49 is still doing that this kill switch has been weird since ive had the tractor to shut it down you have to hold your foot against it, the cub will shut dfown ocassionaly with no warning and it doesent seem to mater how long it runs or what its doing , last nite it was pulling a feed trailer, the last time it was mowing it promptly restarts in just a few minutes , its annoying fuel is good i checked that spark is hot and blue

Remove the kill switch wire from the mag and see if it stops having a problem. On a mag to shut it down you ground the system so removing the wire at the mag will tell you if you have a short or bad switch. Any tractor I have with a mag I shut them off by turning off the gas which you should do on any tractor

IF it has the correct KILL switch for a mag OUT is run and IN is OFF . IF IN is RUN then someone has replaced the ORg. switch with one for a Battery ing. system and when they do that the switch is wired so that IN is run and OUT is OFF , So IF you have to keep your foot against it to keep it running then THIS is your problem . I THINK that they are REPOPPING the org. Mag switches again they are Part #IHS381 From Steiners , one terminal . If your ing. swithc has two then it is WRONG.

im going to give up on this one it runs for several minutes then shuts down, after a few minutes it starts up and runs a few minutes, then shuts down, it has gas at the plug on the bottom of the float bowl on the carb so it has to be electrical ive replaced every part in the mag including the coil,at least once, i dont know what to even work on next, and im tired of fooling with it i guess ill park it in the backyard and let it sit

You have a bad coil or condenser, or both. When testing the Mag, always give the mag a place to ground to or damage will result to the coil and or condenser.

Where is the sw mounted so that you put your foot on it to stop. Just disconnect the wire on the mag for the kill sw and see what happens then. Your new condenser mite also be the problem did the engine shut down before it was replaced same as now.

the original time it shut down the problem found was a cracked coil i think this was actually the factory coil on the tractor, it was replaced, at that time i decided that as long as i had the mag off and on the bench i would put in new points, condensor rotor cap wires and plugs so all that would be done as this is a working tractor, the new problem is it runs for a short time then shuts down, but it will refire and run again after a few minutes, to me, classic symtoms of a bad condensor, i put the original back in there as it was running before, no change thinking the bad coil may have also caused the original condensor to go out, i bought another new condensor and put it on, still the same problem, the first few times it quit i checked the fuel supply figuring the engine might be running out of gas, the lines are clear, and the carb has plenty og gas in the float bolw imeadatly after stopping so that cant be it, i just dont have any idea what is doing this other than bad, new parts, what next? do i get a whole rebuilt mag with a warranty? it cant be that hard to fix this simple old tractor

i should add that when it does run, it runs just fine, no roughness or missing it just doesnt run long enough to do anything
