Tall tire tale?

I was talking to a guy at the tractor pull last weekend. He was looking at my Super C rear tires. He said he worked for a farm tire dealer his last two summers of high school. He went out to a farm with a Farmall C in a shed. He was suppose to put new tires and tubes on the rear. He jacked the back up and sat it on blocks. He could not turn the tires by hand and had to use the starter. He went to take the valve caps off and they didn't look right. They were 1" or 1 1/4" pipe caps. He took the cap off and it started blowing dust out. He ran outstide and stood until it stopped. The tire was 1/2 full of powdered lead. He had to take the rims into town and have the valve core holes welded shut and redrilled. They didn't have the equipment to refill them. They went back with calcium chloride. He filled a gallon coffee can with it and had to use a winch truck to pick it up. By this time I was thinking about getting up on the seat in case it got any deeper! I will let you guys try this one on for size.

That is probably a true story. My best friend got a used tractor a couple years ago and it had powdered lead in the tires. Had a hard time finding any tire installer who would mess with it.

Yes its true, we had a neighbor who bought a 1030 case a few years ago and it had lead in the tires. It had to be a rough ride in road gear!

Worked in the Cessna (Hydraulics) Engineering Experimental Lab years ago. We had a Massey 85 with lead in the tires. You could not drive it over about 10 mph or it would start bouncing as the lead could not roll around fast enough. I don't recall exactly what the valve stems were like.

A gallon is 231 cubic inches.

Lead is .39 pounds per cubic inch.

The can would've been heavy, around 90lbs, but not so heavy that he'd need a winch truck to lift it unless he was a complete wimp.

Yes....there was an 856? in the area with powdered lead filled rear tires. It was all the dealers Loadstar truck wanted to haul...... :(

I'm pretty lazy, I could see myself using the winch truck to lift it. I like to justify it by saying I work smarter not harder.
