Hi there all. I've been following JimB2, StuartR, Cyrush, and Bernard le mecano's conversations on the IH 684 since my IH 684s PTO seemed to crap out on me. PTO turning with no power while NOT engaged, PTO turning with no power while engaged, and PTO shaft wobbling while turning.
A whole host of things have led up to the current predicament that I am now in. I have identified the why it happened now I need help in the “how to fix it department”.
I have done the hydro fluid and filter change, replaced the oil seal and bearing in the upper PTO bearing flange. While replacing the bearing I noticed the "old" bearing had a large piece broken off of it inside the rear housing and that the upper 38T gear was missing about half of the teeth. I went ahead and replaced the bearing and seal to stabilize the PTO shaft and put everything back together as a temporary fix. The next things that are on the agenda are to drain the hydraulic fluid, remove the Rear Frame Cover Assembly, change out the damaged gear, clean out any crud that I can find, replace the Rear Frame Cover Assembly, do a PTO clutch rebuild, change out the filter and replace the fluid with hy-tran.
I need to know if the Rear Frame Cover Assembly removal and installation is a one man job or do I need two? How exactly would I go about doing this? What are the parts that are going to need to be replaced by taking the cover assembly off and reinstalling it (seals, gaskets, etc….)? The tractor does not have a cab on it. And for the PTO clutch rebuild what size roll pin is it that needs to be taken out? Any other help would be greatly appreciated especially if you can identify pitfalls to watch out for.
Thanks
J
