560 power steering not working

Greetings to my fellow red power people.

My 560 Farmall diesel wf has no power steering. After putting a valve in line with the pump output line I am only getting 100psi on the gauge with the valve shut. If you raise the front up it steers with ease. If you remove the pump out put line and plumb it into a remote line off the back, the system works ( when the valve is opened). My testing has led me to a possible pump failure. Would like to know if I'm right in my thinking before I drop the big $ for a pump.

Thanks

Sounds like you have hooked your test gauge and valve right into the line from pump to steering valve, and also sounds like the flow has to go through your valve and cannot get around it. If so, then you have indeed confirmed you have very little flow and pressure so your pump would indeed be bad. Realize though that the pump contains the combination pressure relief and flow divider valve so that could be stuck or broke. Might be worth checking that out when you pull pump out. Should have 1200 psi and 3.5 gal flow per minute at about 75 percent of that max pressure.
