300U steering wheel

I'm having a heck of a time getting the steering wheel of of my 300U. I used a gear puller and actually collapsed the top 1/2 inch of the the steering column. I can grind that off and I think I have enough thread left to put the cap back on.

Any secrets on getting it off?

80% of the time they are destroyed when removed. the other way (might give it a try) is to dremel out material beside the metal hub, then use a big cold chisel on the exposed hub edge to swell it so it can be popped off. Good luck they are disappointing. Jim

Air chisel with a hammer bit, you grab the wheel with your left arm and pull as hard as you can and hit the air hammer at the same time. Make sure you have a nut on the threads for two reasons, one to keep the threads protected, and the most important, to keep the wheel from hitting you in the teeth when it comes off.

Damn, these all seem a bit harsh. by the looks of the responses, I'm not saving the wheel then.

The top of the threads are already shot, so there's no way to save them. I guess I'll skip the tooth loss and cut it off.

Thanks everybody.
