Brakes on 806

Recently bought a 1967 model 806 diesel. I hear a chattering noise coming from both brake housings whenever the tractor goes forwards. Both brake housings get very hot especially if driven in high gear for about a mile. I have adjusted the brake pedal travel and the control valve linkage as shown in the manual. The pedals feel normal and the brakes work fine. Is the heat and chatter normal?

no. time to open up the brake housings, clean out the dirt etc and check springs, self adjusters wear surfaces. might be time for some new o rings- that is supposed to be a dry brake.

Just leave the brake valve alone . Your problem is in the brakes . Broken or rusted stuck return springs and adjusters that are not working like they should will allow the brake disks and plates to get cockeyed . And you may find a broken isolator disc on the piston . Some new disks and seals and new return springs will fix you up. Also may need the little locks for the adjusters as well.

(quoted from post at 19:59:28 08/27/13) Thanks. I have disassembled the brakes and have ordered seals and springs.

If it hasn't been done yet, cut openings on either side of the bottom bolt boss on the brake drum. This will allow dirt to fall out and keep the brakes working better.
