question - tools that came with Farmall Regular

My husband is just curious...
Wondering if anyone knows the answer to a couple questions regarding tools shown in the parts book for a Farmall Regular tractor. (Thanks if you can help. Also posted this on the Talk forum.)

1. Did the tools automatically come with the purchase of a Regular...or did one have to pay extra to get the tools?

2. If yes, what were they packed in? A special toolbox, the tractor's actual toolbox, some crate... or what?

The tools came with the tractor, most farmers had very few other machines on the farm. Lots of tools for working leather harnesses and wood work but not for Tractors, so IH included them.

As for how they arrived with the tractor I'm not sure.

36F30,
Thank you (that is what my husband was thinking too - due to tractors being a "new thing" at the time).

Guess he will just have to speculate on how they were shipped... as we do not know any living person that we could ask about it.

SweetFeet, ask Gordon Rice, Rice Equipment. Gordon has retired, but his son and nephew now run it. Ask them, and they will ask Gordon. I talk to him once in awhile, and will try to remember to ask.

I would venture a guess, that they were just handed to the buyer at the time of purchase. I know that an older IH dealer I was at, still had some of the tool bins in the back. They were empty, but had the wrench numbers on them. I guess, when you bought a tractor, they went into the back with a list, and came back to the counter with a handful. Or, possibly you had to buy them. Not sure.

Grandpa told me the tools came with my F30 when he bought it new. The dealer included an Engine Air tire pump because the tractor was on round spoke rubber. I have the tire pump and a very few of the original tools.

Can't ask Him what, if anything they came in cause he's been gone for several years. There were some big wrenches for the 30's (like for the axle nut) that no way were gonna fit in the onboard tool box.

I once had a set of tools and an owners manual from an old dealer store that were for the Farmall H. If I remember the tools were either in a cloth bag or wrapped in paper with the manual in an envelope. I'd guess the older Farmalls were the same.

Most IHC tractor parts books list the tools that came with the tractor. I presume they were in the tool boxes except for the W-12, O-12 and Fairway 12 tractors which have the tools listed in the books but NO tool boxes. The 10-20, 15-30, W-30 and W-40 etc have their boxed on the right hand side of the platform alongside the seat, the F-20 and F-30 under the fuel tank over the clutch housing and the F-12 under the rear of the tank but no indication of a tool box for the other 12 or 14 series tractors.

I have a wooden box labeled F20 tools that came with the purchase of a new F20 so I"d say they were in a separate wooden box

Kevin,

Thanks for your reply.

If you post photos, I would love to see a picture of it. Would be neat.
