How Do I Remove the Crank Pulley on a Super A

The front seal on the engine of my Farmall Super A is leaking and I would like to replace it while I have the tractor disasembeled for a radiator repair. I am contemplating on removing the front steering bolster casting to make more room, but after looking and studying that crank pulley, I can not figure out for the life of me how it is removed. Mine has the "teeth" on it for the hand crank, and it is not like the pulley used on the Farmall 140, which has a nut holding it on instead of the "teeth" for the hand crank.

Is this pulley pressed on? If so, how would you remove it and reinstall it when changing just the front seal?

Is the pulley threaded, and screws on?

Is there a bolt holding it on deep inside beyond the hand crank "teeth" ?

Some of these pulleys have a set screw on them
behind the pulley. The crankshaft is keyed and the
pulley is a pressed fit. You need a puller that
splits in half to slip behind the pulley so you
don't break it. A 2 or 3 arm puller will not work.
To reinstall, heat it in the oven at 150-200 degrees
and it will slip right on.

My 1953 Super A has the place for a crank and a nut. I replaced mine by putting an adjustable splitter behind the pulley to keep it from breaking and a 2 jaw puller. It is very tight and will make you think you broke something when it breaks loose. I did not use heat to replace it, just the nut that holds it on. There was no set screw, on mine anyway.

I would like to see some pictures if that is possible because I didn"t see a place for a nut at all. It just has the crank "ears". Wouldn"t I need to put a bolt in the middle of the pulley for the jaw puller to push against? Where would I find a bearing seperator?

Also, I'm assuming I will need a new gasket for that front cover once it is removed to install the seal. I tried running the parts number on Napa's site but no luck. I didnt see that gasket listed on eBay or on YT either. Know where I can get one, or a good part number to search? Thanks for the help guys.

CaseIH has the gasket, if no local dealer call Carter and Gruenwald (external_link), or external_link. A little more expensive than other places, but you can be assured it is correct. I went brain dead when I said a nut, I meant that the crankshaft on my Super A and C have threads in the end of the crankshaft in which you can put a bolt to pull the pulley in when you put it back on. I am not sure that all crankshafts have that, meaning you will need heat to get it on. If you don't have a parts book all numbers are in the parts section of CaseIH.com.

Read my correction below, I used the bolt mentioned below for the center of the puller to push against.

You can make it or have it made a puller like Keith made for is Super C using bottle jack or a hydraulic ram. You metal shop can make one and you need to use a split bearing separator behind the pulley. BigDog made one for his Cub tractor.
The shop I used punched the holes for the all-thread. Hal
