what needs to be done to convert generator to alt..one to the distributor,do you need to change condenser, I know i"ll need a ballast resistor and a diode,whatt else needs to be done

Here"s some notes I made 20+ years ago going from 6V generator to 12V alternator in my "H". These are just things to be aware of, to check out. Not saying htis is complete. I got all this advice from NAPA where I bought the alternator. There"s a man names CharlieU who sells the diode, and has a great wiring diagram along iwth it. Hopefully he"ll give you better advice, but here"s mine;
12 Volt GM Alternator with internal regulator
$10 resistor IRC23
Reverse the coil wires
Reverse the battery
Reverse the wires on the amp gage
Therefore everything will be negative ground
Wire from the Start button to the new resistor to the coil
Leave the old voltage regulator
• Run Battery terminal to ‘BA’ terminal on alternator
• Remove ‘GEN’ wire and scrap it.
• Remove ‘F’ wire and scrap it.

I would follow this diagram I made. The original VR is not needed. The coil polarity is important. The bulbs must be changed, and the battery must be negative ground. Reversing the amp meter is also to be sure it reads correctly. Use new wires as shown and keep the diagram printed out in the manual. You do not state which tractor, so the ignition switch is shown as the Farmall H type. The starter is shown as one on a later tractor the intent is to connect that fuse link to the battery wire at the Start switch what ever typr it has. The small wire shown going to the starter and connecting to the ballast resistor is for resistor bypass if the starter relay/solenoid has that "I" terminal. A second diode can be used in series with that wire to allow full starting voltage bypass if you have a mechanical switch to the starter. If so the diode is placed so starter motor current from the switch can go the the ballast resistor but not vrom the resistor to the starter. Or the wire can be left out all together.
