@ rex simpkins identify 2 row fh planter

Rex, the 251 designation seems the closest anyone has come to properly identifying the unit.

Is there any way in the Case-IH on-line Parts Store to see an "index" page of the 251 planter parts book,
and,
then print the individual pages. I can't seem to get any continuity to see it all. I'm guessing a name, like "countershaft" and seeing that page. However, I don't seem to be guessing enough correct words to see a full parts catalog

I went to the Messick's IH website and I'll be darned if the 251 planter wasn't on there, figured it would be to old. Anyway I didn't know it but they made three point setups for that planter also so they must have made them for quite a few years. Maybe yours is one of the last ones made, with alot of the options on it.But I think it is something made right after the 251 but it is stumping me but I am still working on it can you get me a part # off the yoke spindle and handwheel off the adjustment?????

If it would help you, I have pictures of a restored C-251 planter as well as nearly complete parts breakdown I can send you. Let me know if I can help.

I don't know if PLA-5A will help you any or not. Try searching for "built" to find the index for each section.

Once in a while I peek in at your planter postings. I suggest and maybe you have already tried this, the Wisc. Histerical  Society. In February 2010 I last visited; they couldn't find material I was looking for as it had gotten misplaced. A few days later I was pleasantly surprised to find a FREE printout of the material after they found it. Hope this helps and good luck with your project.

Jim, I checked PLA-5A and the 251 is closest, but it also has other items that are kind of later planters. I am think it is the last 251's or what came right after them but it seems to not be in PLA-5A but mine goes up to 295's and 800cyclo

Planting Depth I would guess is adjusted through the adjustment wheel in the rear of the unit frame. The Threaded portion threads into a female part, 520469R1.

I didn't find a number yet on the hand-wheel & threaded shaft

Sorry, but I have reached the end of my road, I can not find the part numbers you have given any place, however I am suppose to start a part time job working for the local CaseIH dealer. So maybe I will have a chance to look at some of their old books. I will try and remember this, as matter of fact I do not think I will be able to forget until this is figured out

One difference between my unit and a 251 I could see on the CASEIH Parts website --
The 251 FH points "bend" to where they are narrower on the end that attaches to the tool bar.

On my unit, the FH points are straight from tip to toolbar.

Another thing that may not show well in the pictures, behind the toolbar pointing directly backwards is a tube. The depth Adjustment wheel and Turn Wheel attach to the rear-most point of this tube. At the front of the tube, there is an about 18 inch steel bar, left-to-right. At each end of the bar is a hole. In each hole is a J-hook bolt about 2 ft long pointing upward. A large spring is around each J bolt, with a lock nut. Looks like maybe this is an adjustment point that lets the entire planter unit swivel like an airplane wig-wagging its wings (can't think of any other way to describe the movement)

rex,
planter hopper looks correct to 284 combination offset hopper, plates look correct for cotton hopper bottom
but
since the 3 two-row fh bars don't show in this parts book, or by individual part number from the parts book, it's hard to tell.

Also, no single transmission system running two planter units on a single drive shaft is shown here.

Was the 284 in a two-row set up two individual units on a wider bar ? no common drive ?
