I am looking at a farmall 400 gas, starts runs good, Power steering (works)Koyker Loader w bucket and bale spear. Rear tires are poor, Fronts ok, TA is out Paint is bad. They want $3000.00 Thanks for your input. Scotty

sounds a little high for me if it needs rear tires there about 400 plus tubes and if the ta is out about another grand offer the guy 2 grand and see what he says if he don't like keep looking theres plenty of other ones

I am assuming that Koyker loader is a late model quick attach style. Price that loader alone new which I guess will be $4k to $5k when new and then value the tractor accordingly.

Loader at $2k to $2500 or so used and tractor at $2k sounds like a rather fair deal if he is only asking $3k.

No more than that, but it will be usable with tires. Plan on the TA when you can (very good thing to use and makes a real flexible tractor). Jim

That sounds like a good price. Offer $2500 and see what happens. Doesn't hurt to offer, people are used to bargaining.

Location drives the price too FYI. To me $3000 seems too high given that the TA is out and all you can say about the tires is they are round and sorta hold air. Fixing the TA requires splitting the tractor into 2 or 3 pieces. So not everybody can do that. Rear tires are expensive (FYI a 14.9x38 right now is about $700+ new). To me the tractor itself (without the loader) isn't worth much more than $1200-$1500 tops given what you have said about it. Now if the TA was good and it had decent tires then I would say the tractor alone is worth $3000 easy. The cost you would get into to fix the TA or put tires on it is in essence the cost of what it would cost somebody to rebuild a motor.

You made no mention of what kinda shape the PTO is in. Do you know? That would be a bugger if you start working the PTO hard and it starts slipping on you.

Also, what kinda shape is the steering gear in? If it's been a loader tractor it's whole life I would wonder what kinda shape the steering sector is in? Take it down the road in road gear, that will tell you real quick.

What kinda shape are the brakes in? That isn't a super huge expense to fix, but good to know (I wouldn't road test if if the brakes don't work LOL).

Maybe you have already looked at this stuff and if so then cool, just be careful about buying a pig wearing lipstick. Because at the end of the day it's still a pig.
