Farmall A Magneto

My A will not spark at all. I changed the points and condenser
and that didn't help. I also checked the kill switch by
disconnecting it and tracing the wires to see if if had a short in
it, all looked good there too. Could it be that the magneto
needs a rebuild?

Are you sure when you replaced the points that you didnt get the rotor out of time. Remove the cap and watch where the rotor points before it fires it should be pointing to the place where the wire in the cap is before it snaps.

You may have a weak coil or the magnets may be weak. If you decide to pull that mag you need to make a sketch where the rotor is pointing, then don't move the engine while the mag is off. Hal

what was it doing before u worked on it? did it have spark or not?
a magneto usually is trouble free, even just a simple point filing keeps them going. lots of times it the condenser that fails. magnets loosing charge is not real common, but can happen.
did you make sure the gap is set correctly on the high cam lob?. I check for spark before even installing them on the tractor if have one off. also make sure the impulse is snapping or you wont have a hot spark.

Where are you checking for spark. Make sure you check directly from the coil wire by pulling wire out of cap. That way you will determine if you have a problem in the rotor and cap area or coil, points condenser area. Points must be perfectly clean set to .013 and a common problem when guys replace points is they do it on the tractor where they cannot see things clearly. Get a dab of grease on points or not align them properly or allow the wire to touch side of mag frame. If all that checks out , most likely coil.
