Magnet Therapy Cont'd

Thanks all for ideas. Questions: 1)any ideas of where to find a magnetic drain plug? 2)I'm surprised there is room inside the filter housing for a magnet. If you were placing one there, would you try to fit it flat against the filter or where would you place it?

I'm no expert on magnets and have never used one. However, I don't particularly like the filter area as the oil flow by could flush it off the magnet, although it is probably unlikely -- unless the filter is not changed regularly. If I used one I would prefer it at the bottom of the pan, better if the plug itself is magnetic as noted in the earlier post.

1) I dont know if you can buy a magnetic drain plug for your specific tractor but its simple to make your own. Ebay has every size of magnet you can imagine, usually sold in packs of 10 or more so you will have extras. Just pick a size that will work well for you, drill a shallow hole in the drain plug to fit the magnet and epoxy it in place. The magnet will pretty much hold itself to the drain plug but the epoxy makes sure.

2) A hard drive magnet might fit inside the cover but you will have to check the fit.

Dont forget about the oil level check plug, thats an easy spot to add a magnet to the plug and it should get some oil splash on it to make it worth while. The fliter housing and drain plug both require losing oil to check and clean (unless you drill a new, smaller drian plug in your large drain plug).

Just Google magnetic drain plugs and you will find many places to get them in just about any thread size you want.
