Got timng marks on Super M CAM(need answers)

Book says line up timing marks on cam and crank gear.I did that, but dont see any other marks on cam gear to line up with dist gear..If I remember correctly on my 400 I lined up the mark on the cam and crank and set the timing mark on the crankshaft pulley to the pointer on the front cover and set the distributor to #1.Sound familiar to you guys?,or sound right?

I replaced the cam gear on my SM, the new one had a mark for aligning with the crankshaft, not the distributer. The mark on the old gear was 180 degrees from the crank mark, exactly opposite, so I punched a mark there. So what you did is correct if the setting is 180 degrees away -- I feel a lot more comfortable with a mark. If you had the head off so you could accurately see TDC, then it is ok.

Thank You very much. Its been 5 years since I re-did one of these motors.Takes some freshening up sometimes,Especially with my mind.LOL!
