Hello, I looked in the archives and saw that people have used Autolite 3076 and also 3077. And others have used the Champion W14 or W18 plugs. Does it matter at all which I buy?
Thank you

The 3077 doesnt look like a conventional plug, and I hate they were discontinued, but I have it on good authority there may be a short run of them in the near future, however they will probably be expensive. there is an alterante plug from Autolite in that heat range, but the number escapes me at the moment. it too is hard to find IIRC. The Champion plug is supposedly still being made, but I havent seen them locally. (Id bet youll get the 3077 is correct for the tractor shortly) My 14 has had the same 3077s in it for like 9 years now and havent fouled one yet, and I replaced a set of 3076s with less than 4 hours run time on them, and those replaced W18s than had less than that. I blame it on the downdraft carb IH used on the 14s so on the 20s there may be different results, I dont own a 20, but the one we had years ago that was recently restored was run with the same plugs my uncle put in it in the 70s after 30 years of sitting, and those were W18s.

champion plugs have been around since those tractors were built and I sure don"t see what all the fuss is about the 2 brands. experimented with both types and still say champion is better built. as far as running each one cant see a difference, and I don"t think the tractor knows either. the higher the # on plug the hotter the heat range. for heavy pulling you want a cooler plug and light work or just idling around requires a hotter plug. can even tell just by looking at the electrode, the hotter plug has a thinner electrode.

Call around all of your car parts stores in your area and seek out left over stock of the 3077's. I did that a couple months ago, and have enough for quite a few more future Farmall projects. Was interesting in that I found prices from $2.60 to nearly $4.

If your area comes up dry, call friend in different parts of the state/country & ask them to track you down a dozen or so.

The 3077's work very well in the old F-series tractors.
