size of stud

A-Man, where are you going to get them? The Case IH dealer would be my choice. I have purchased them there myself. I don't think you could walk into the local hardware and find a nut of the same spec. They are 1/2 inch, fine thread, 20/inch, but they take a 7/8 wrench size, so they are fairly broad. They need to squeeze the head down tight, being the right grade and size.
That being said, you really don't have to go anywhere, you can get them mail order(e-mail order these days) from Messicks. They are part # 13, on picture section 012(engine, crankcase, front cover, camshaft, and related parts, or part # 329-118 in the Case IH parts catalog online. Price is $1.68 each. Messicks has 51 in stock.
Best Regards,
Charlie

I lost one head nut from my Super M and ordered one from the local CaseIH dealer -- it was smaller in outside diameter. Could have been a mistake, but I put a couple of washers under it and used it, assuming that since it was only one nut it wouldn't hurt anything.
