I need to add oil to my lift all reservoir. I'm not sure what type of oil is in it sooo I will drain and replace. I've looked back in previous posts and found varrying views. The manual says replace with motor oil- but I have seen posts where guys are replacing with Hy-tran. Also the Manual does not show any screens to clean....is there any?

Which is best oil or hy-tran

no filter in it. if you are going to run implements on other tractors that run hytran, replace it with hytran so you dont cross contaminate anything. if you are only running your impelents and not interchanging, you can run motor oil. i run hytran in all mine.

it does have a filter- in-line but i also have a couple other tractors and will swap tractors if needed. I'll run hy trans. it smells like hytrans anyways

thanks

Makes no difference if you are not sharing implements with a tractor that uses different fluid.

Motor oil would be the cheapest. It actually called for an SAE30 Non Detergent oil. Hy-tran will work and is the choice of the experts on here. Can't even imagine what you might pull with an M that would require any new generation oil though.
LOL

I think this guy posted about an M&W pump.

If so I think they recommended a more modern oil which is why many use the hy-tran

In the grand scheme of things it probably doesn't matter.

SAE-30 non-detergent is just straight up oil with no additives, so if a little gets in the Hytran, or a little Hytran gets into it, there won't be any adverse reactions.

The problem I have is finding non-detergent oils. There's pallets of hytran or hytran-compatible oil in every farm store, but only once in a while do I ever see a few quarts of non-detergent motor oil on the shelves.

What is the point of running around town paying too much and dealing with tiny quart jugs of non-detergent motor oil when I can just pick up a 5-gallon pail of hytran compatible stuff at the first store I go into?

Cross contamination is the key element here. Like many others here says, if you have the possibility of cross contamination, use Hy Trans. Unless, of course all your machines use 30wt. oil.

If you have a standard M with the pump in the belly you need 30wt non detergent motor oil. I have tried hy-tran, and the pump will lift, but it whines and is slow. Change to 30wt and it lifts better with no whine. If you have a Super MTA it uses IH touch control fluid, which is Hi-tran. Ellis

With the Lift-All pump and small implement cylinders go with the Hy-Tran or equivalent. For an older loader there is an advantage with 30wt ND.

The only way it would lift better is if the pump is worn out and not in spec. If the pump is good it will lift the same with hytran, 30wt, baby oil, or water. All you need is a minimally compressible liquid. A hydraulic system doesn't care what the fluid is.

Shoot, Ive always used hydro fliud from Rural King,Tractor Supply, Big R and never had a problem with them lifting or leaking if the seal is good, Kenny.
