C-113 to 123 using sleeves and pistons

I've read several comments about resleeving a 113 with thinner sleeves and running larger pistons to essentially get a 123. I recall one of the articles being from here, but I can't recall.

Who all has done that? I'm looking at rebuilding our B and would like to do that myself for a little more grunt.

If I'm going to be buying parts regardless...

Thanks,

RC

I've done it. I would imagine that nearly anyone who has put sleeves & pistons in an A, B, BN has done it.

Will it turn your tractor into a fire breathing monster? uh, no.

But it will give you some increase in horsepower.

I suggest that you also make sure that the carburetor and governor are working properly so that you can use the extra 10 cubic inches.

"they" don't even make sleeves/pistons for the 113 anymore. If you go to resleeve it, you will get the 123 sleeves. Obviously this means you need 123 pistons too. I believe you can get rings for the 113 pistons still though.

If really want to increase HP, try to find some high altitude pistons or look for some "firecracker" pistons.

Thanks for the replies. Good to know. Well, I know it was rebuilt about 25 years ago. I'd have to ask my uncle what was used at the time, but I'm betting if the standard kit was available, it was what they used. I remember them rebuilding it, but it was done quickly and I didn't help on it...

I'm going to go through most of the tractor anyhow as it was run constantly until about 10 years ago.

We've got larger tractors for true grunt work. Of course, most of my time with the tractor was after many hours of use, so a rebuild of any fashion would be a good step up in power.

I had also read about using 1st gear from a 140? Offered a little bit of a gear reduction as well?

Try again, you have the wrong sleeves.

There are two different outside diameters of the sleeves in the C-113 engines. The early ones (A, B, & Early Super A & C) are smaller than later ones. You can not just go buy any old C-123 sleeves and slap them in. Take out the old sleeves and measure the O.D. at the bottom of the sleeve, where the O-ring seal is. You buy the sleeves that fit your block.

Sleeves are available for the older blocks in both the 3" piston diameter and the 3-1/8" piston diameter. Never buy the sleeve/piston kit until you pull apart the engine and measure the O.D. of what is there.

If he's right about one thing, its this.
