Newbie with a few questions

GrampsB

Hi guys, I just inherited my grandfathers farmall B, I have been trying to clean it up and get it back in running shape. I haven't spent much time around tractors in the past, but do restore cars.
Anyway, could you tell me where the proper lift location for lifting the front end safely to change wheels/tires.
Can one wheel be removed if the other wheel is driven up onto a 4x4? Then switch and do the other?
The sediment bowl below the gas tank on mine has a filter in it but there is nothing that I see here in products that match. Perhaps this wasn't the original style?
I also have a seat that isn't like what I have seen and was hoping someone could help identify it. It is adjustable height with a shock in the center of the spring. I will post a picture if it helps.
Any help or information would be great. Thanks

I have lifted the front wheels of my B by jacking it under the clutch housing. I have also run one front tire up on a block to work on the opposite side as you described. Either way should work.

Not sure about your sediment bowl/filter question. Are you saying that it has the sediment bowl AND an inline filter? If so, that would not be factory, but also might not be a bad idea depending on the condition of the inside of your gas tank.

If your seat has the shock in the center, it is an aftermarket seat. A picture might help someone on here identify who manufactured it.

Thanks for the information, that is what I had kind of planned, but wasn"t sure if there was a better or preferred place for jacking. As for the filter it is inside the glass bowl you can kind of make it out here in the photo. It is not inline before or after. I also don"t see a precleaner assy at all, should I have one? The seat has2 removable tool trays. I have attached photos here.

The sediment bowl should have a fine screen at the top of the glass bowl. That is all I have on mine and it seems to be adequate.

I am not familiar with that seat, but it sure isn't factory original.

It should have the stock factory air cleaner on it. It is an oil bath type, put regular engine oil in the bowl at the bottom. I don't think that air pre-cleaners were on these from the factory, but many were added aftermarket.

Sediment bowl usually has a fine mesh screen in the top, I don't know how a filter got in there but maybe someone found one that would fit. Looks like a good idea if it fits properly.

Be careful with an inline filter. That is a gravity fed fuel line and a filter may cut the gas flow down and not work.

I have seen screens that drop down into the sediment bowl on tractors that use the longer bowl but never in a short one like this one. The drop down screen allows more screen area so it can catch more junk before it plugs completely. Jim

Thanks everybody, I am beginning to think that my uncle put it in there. He was a small engine mechanic and had access to several different parts etc... that may have fit in a pinch. It fits like it was made to be there, but I will probably go back to the original screen.

Newbie - Welcome, you are now longer a newbie!

Do not ever be afraid to ask a question! We all have asked questions that had simple answers and remember, "There is no such thing as a dumb question!"

Sediment bowls with filters like that were a aftermarket thing and they worked well they did a better job than the original types for catching real fine stuff.

Ive been using the Fram in-line filters for yrs as they do catch fines the screen on the sediment doesent and when they get dirty just install another one.

Thanks guys I appreciate the information and the warm welcome. By the way here is a better shot showing the filter that is in my sediment bowl.
