300 utility oil pressure

Hey guys my 300 is getting very tired, the oil pressure drops down to under 5lbs after working it for 1/2 hour. I checked the pump, filter and guage (all good) and tried heavier weight oil without any change. I think it"s time to try new main bearings. Can I change the full set by just dropping the oil pan? It looks like it would be fairly simple. Do you think this will cure the problem? Thank you in advance for your time, Tom

Tom - I replaced both the main and rod bearings on my Super H (same engine as a 300) simply by dropping the pan.

New bearings improved the hot, low idle oil pressure from 5 psi to around 20 psi. I'm certain installing new cam shaft bearings would raise the hot idle pressure higher. But I'm happy (and the tractor runs fine) with 20 psi.

IF it is down that far then it is past time to pull the crank and cam . have the crank mic,ed and install new cam bearings and a new oil pump . I believe you will find that the crank is out of round and wore down and will need turning on the mains and rods . Once that is done then it should be good for the next fifty years.
